Sound familiar?
Fault diagnostics that end the guessing.
A warning light names a circuit, not a broken part. We scan every module, watch the live data and put a meter on the actual wiring, so the fault gets found instead of guessed at. Fully qualified auto electricians in Burnside, serving Christchurch and Canterbury, with a money back guarantee from the owner on every job.
What the test covers.
Every diagnosis runs the same list. You are not paying for someone to plug in a reader and read the first code out loud.
- Full scan of every module, not just the engine computer
- Stored, pending and permanent fault codes read and recorded
- Freeze frame data captured before anything is cleared
- Live sensor data watched against spec while the engine runs
- Voltage drop testing across supplies, earths and connectors
- Wiring, connector and harness inspection at the fault circuit
- Battery, charging and parasitic drain testing where relevant
- ABS, airbag, immobiliser and body module faults
- EFI and running faults on modified or standalone setups
- A written explanation of what failed and what it will cost
How a diagnosis runs.
You tell us what it does
When it happens, hot or cold, and what changed. That alone often halves the search.
We scan and record
Every module read, freeze frame data saved. Nothing gets cleared before it is written down.
We test the circuit
Meter on the actual wiring: supply, earth and signal, compared against the diagram for your vehicle.
You get the answer and the price
What failed, why, and what the repair costs. You decide before we carry on.
Why us for this
- Fully qualified auto electricians, not a general workshop
- Money back guarantee on every service, from the owner
- Testing before parts, so you pay for the fault you actually have
Questions we get asked.
How much does auto electrical diagnostics cost in Christchurch?
Diagnostic time is charged for the time it takes, and a straightforward fault with a clear code is often sorted inside the hour. We tell you what we have found and what the repair costs before we carry on, so there is no open-ended bill. Ring Jono on 021 136 2742 for a realistic estimate on your vehicle.
Can you find a fault that only happens sometimes?
Yes, though intermittent faults take longer because the fault has to be present to be measured. Stored codes, freeze frame data and wiggle testing on suspect connectors usually narrow it down. Tell us when it happens and what you were doing at the time.
Will a code reader tell me what part to replace?
No. A code names a circuit or an out-of-range reading, not a broken component. That is why we follow the code with live data and physical circuit testing, so you buy the part that actually failed instead of the one the code was pointing near.
Do I need to leave the car with you?
For a clear fault, often not. For intermittent problems or anything needing a road test under load, leaving it with us for the day gets a far better result. We are at 516 Wairakei Road, Burnside, Christchurch.
